Should you watch in dollars or in lira?
The right answer is to watch both, but depending on the question you are asking, one is more informative than the other.
When the lira price is the right one
If your income and spending are in lira, the nominal amount you will actually receive is the lira price. Stop levels, average cost and tax calculations all run in lira.
When the dollar price is the right one
For judging long-run performance, comparing different periods, or measuring a stock against foreign peers, the dollar series is more meaningful. Across years, lira figures become impossible to compare because of the currency.
Reading them together
Most of the information comes from seeing both curves on one chart. If they rise together, there is a genuine increase in value. If the lira curve rises while the dollar curve is flat or falling, the rise is mostly currency.
Both of the index's numbers today
At the 27 Oct 2026 close the BIST 100 stood at 11,151 points in lira and $224.00 in dollars. Over the past year that is +2.7% in lira against -13.3% in dollars.

BIST 100 index chart in dollarsWhich one is more correct?
Both are correct; they answer different questions. The lira price shows the nominal amount, the dollar price shows purchasing power.
Which should a long-term investor use?
Currency effects accumulate over time, so the dollar series gives a sounder long-run comparison. You still need the lira price to track the nominal amount.
